Football Takes Helmets Seriously

As Mario Romano ordered helmets for his Colts Neck players, he took the most care. “Helmets are the most important piece of safety equipment, protecting the brain,” he notes. Mario Romano explains that the Colts Neck coaches measure each player’s head with helmet tape, being very observant of the shape of each one. Mario details the way jaw pads, faceguards, and chinstraps have specific lengths they should be in respect to the jaw and skull. Mario Romano says that the Colts Neck league will stop at nothing to guarantee the right fit. As a final test, Colts Neck’s Mario Romano says the child should be able to see 180 degrees with their peripheral vision, as well as 75 degrees upwards and downwards.
